Grow Your Garden Right: Happy (almost) Spring!
Gardening provides some good analogies for training practices. A gardener simply creates conditions that are conducive for plants to grow: if those conditions are maintained, then growth occurs.
Think about how you onboard and train your new hires...after "planting" in the right spot (also key point) are you watering? Fertilizing? Identifiying and preventing problems with soil, weather, size?
Too often in Staffing we have little or no time to dedicate to training, and the actual development of skills of our new hires. We may get frustrated at their progress at 60, 90, 120 days and are quick to blame ourselves for hiring the wrong person. Instead, think like a gardener: how can you better water, fertilize, and protect your investments to grow as intended? Small changes can have big impact.
